Straz Center’s Next Generation Ballet dancers win big at Youth America Grand Prix competition

Dancers from the David A. Straz, Jr. Center’s Next Generation Ballet (NGB) competed against hundreds of dancers in the region last weekend to earn dozens of awards at the Youth America Grand Prix (YAGP) Competition held at the Straz Center.

See "Pops" from 'The Wayans Bros.' show this weekend

Tampa, Florida -- You may know him as "Pops" from "The Wayans Bros." show or Ice Cube's dad in the trilogy "Friday", "Next Friday" and "Friday After Next", but this weekend John Witherspoon will be himself as he brings his comedic routine to the Tampa Improv.

Witherspoon has also appeared in the movies "Boomerang", "House Party" and "I'm Gonna Git You Sucka".

Witherspoon is scheduled to appear Jan. 30 through Feb. 2.

New Port director to meet with public

Tampa, Florida -- The Tampa Port Authority has a new Chief Executive Officer and the Tampa Downtown Partnership is giving the public a chance to meet him.

Paul Anderson, who is the former director of the Jacksonville Port Authority, came to Tampa in December of 2012. He is also a former Federal Maritime Commissioner.

Former SNL star Kevin Nealon in Ybor this weekend

Tampa, Florida -- Former Saturday Night Live star Kevin Nealon will perform at the Tampa Improv this weekend.

Nealon, who appeared on SNL for nine years, will have shows both Friday, Jan. 18 and Saturday, Jan. 19.

Tickets for Nealon's show are $25 each.

The Tampa Improv is located at 1600 East 8th Ave.

On Monday, January 7, Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections- elect, Craig Latimer, will be formally sworn in as the Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections by the Honorable James V. Dominguez, County Court Administrative Judge, will administer the oath of office.

Broadway entertainer to teach at Patel Conservatory audition workshop

An exciting new development has just occurred in the audition workshop being held Friday at the Straz Center's Patel Conservatory. Broadway entertainer E. Clayton Cornelious, currently on tour with Sister Act, is going to teach the dance portion of the workshop!

This workshop is themed: How to survive a dance and music audition, For $50, the public can attend. Registration is required by calling 813-222-1002.
