Ybor City street signs bring in $6,000 at auction
News

TAMPA, Florida (AP) - An auction raised more than $6,000 for a dozen Ybor City street signs removed by Tampa officials before the Republican National Convention.

The Tampa Bay Times reports successful bidders at the Monday night auction paid $400 and up for the signs.

The Tampa City Council voted last summer to remove the "La Sétima" signs because people complained they would embarrass the city during the convention because they used the wrong spelling of the Spanish word for seventh.

The signs were replaced with signs that used three versions of the word: Seventh Avenue, La Sétima and La Séptima.

The newspaper reports the proceeds will go to Ybor's special taxing district.
