Parents asked about school during GOP convention | News

Tampa, Florida -- Parents of students at Sam Rampello Downtown Partnership School are being asked for their thoughts on class during the Republican National Convention.
The school is located just a few blocks from the Tampa Bay Times Forum, where the GOP event will take place and one option is to close the school during gathering. Under that option, students at the K-8 school would actually start classes a week earlier than other kids in the district... then during the convention they'd take the week off.
Another option would be to relocate school for the week of August 27th.
The options and request for feedback were recently sent home in a letter to parents of Rampello students.
"We're trying to make a decision as quickly as we can. I'm not sure we have all the information we need but this is one bit of information we're trying to collect," said Hillsborough County School District Spokesperson Steve Hegarty.
Hegarty added the survey will not be binding but certainly could influence what the district decided to do.
"If it's 50-50, I guess it's not a very easy decision but if it's an overwhelming majority that would like to do one or the other that will help."
The convention is expected to draw more than 50,000 people to the Bay area.
