Hillsborough County, Florida-- As Americans nationwide honor Independence Day on July 4, so will those working for Hillsborough County offices and facilities.
Hillsborough County News shared a list of county services and their schedules for the fourth:
The majority of Hillsborough County offices and facilities will be closed on Wednesday, July 4, in observance of Independence Day.
Closed facilities include the administrative offices of County government, neighborhood service centers, all libraries, all County-operated Head Start/Early Head Start Centers, recreation centers, senior centers and nutrition sites.
Animal Services
Animal Services is hosting a red, white and blue bash for shelter pets on July 4 called Flags & Fur ‘Til 4.
From 10 a.m. - 4 p.m., the special event will feature adoptions at half-price.
Adoption fees include spaying/neutering, vaccinations, microchip, veterinary health check up, Hillsborough County pet registration tag and a free goodie bag.
While the shelter is open on the holiday for this event and lost pet search, the animal turn-in gate will not be open. A limited number of officers will be on call for animal emergencies only (813-744-5660). Normal shelter operations and hours will resume on Thursday, July 5 at 9 a.m.
Fire Rescue
Fire Rescue Administration, the Fire Marshall’s Office, and the Office of Emergency Management will be closed. All emergency services will continue without interruption.
InfoLine
Hillsborough County’s InfoL!ne, 813-272-5900, will be closed.
Head Start
All County-operated Head Start/Early Head Start Centers will be closed for the Fourth of July.
Libraries
All libraries in Hillsborough County will be closed, including Temple Terrace and Bruton Memorial in Plant City.
The Egypt Lake Partnership Library (3403 W. Lambright St., Tampa) will also be closed on July 2 and 3 for an annual cleaning done by Hillsborough County Public Schools.
The nearest alternative locations are the North Tampa Branch Library (8916 North Boulevard, Tampa) and Town 'N Country Regional Library (7606 Paula Drive, Suite 120, Tampa).
Book drops will remain open.
Holds will be extended, and fines will be waived for anything due during the closure.
The scheduled computer instruction class in Spanish is being cancelled.
Parks, Recreation and Conservation
All County recreation centers will be closed.
All regional parks are normally open on Independence Day. However, some parks may still be dealing with the impacts of Tropical Storm Debby.

- Lithia Springs Park
- Trout Creek Park boardwalk area
- Morris Bridge Park, east side
Solid Waste
There will be no solid waste collection (including garbage, recyclables and yard waste) in the unincorporated Hillsborough County Service Area, which also includes Tampa Palms, Hunter's Green and New Tampa.
Solid waste customers whose scheduled collection day falls on Wednesday, July 4, may set out twice the amount of garbage, recyclables and yard waste on the next scheduled day for pick up of these items.
The Southeast County Landfill, Northwest and South County Transfer Facilities; Resource Recovery Facility, Hillsborough Heights Community Collection Center, and the Alderman Ford Community Collection Center will be closed.
Sunshine Line
The Sunshine Line transportation service will not be in operation on Independence Day.
Water and Wastewater Emergencies
The Public Utilities Department customer call center and water/wastewater customer service centers in Northdale and Brandon will be closed on July 4.
Emergency calls regarding County water and wastewater service may be made to 813-744-5600. Also, the Public Utilities Department’s Water Quality Hotline is answered 24 hours a day. That number is 813-264-3835.
Constitutional Officers
Offices of the Property Appraiser, Tax Collector and Supervisor of Elections will be closed on Independence Day, as well as offices of the Clerk of the Circuit Court and court facilities.
Environmental Protection Commission
The offices of the Environmental Protection Commission of Hillsborough County will be closed.
