Volunteers needed to put up Ybor holiday decorations

Tampa, FL -- Volunteers are needed this weekend to help put up holiday decorations in Ybor City.

Organizers say if you are interested in helping out go the Reservoir Bar located at 1518 E. 7th Ave at 11 a.m. on Sunday morning.

In past years, organizers say as many as 80 people have helped put up garland and lights along 7th Avenue. They say putting up the decorations generally takes a few hours.

An Ybor City tree lighting ceremony at Centro Ybor is planed this year for Dec. 30.

I've taught at the Teach-In since my children were small, and I've always been so nervous for days beforehand - but afterwards, am so glad I participated. I've mostly taught about journalism, public relations and the performing arts and the students have always made me feel like I've made a difference. It's very rewarding!

Ybor mural moves one step closer to reality

Tampa, FL -- A mural, that if completed will be the city's largest, has taken a big step closer towards becoming reality. Officials with the Adamo Drive Mural Project say financing is now in place for the proposed 370-foot long by 35-foot tall picture.

Hillsborough County, FL -- Keep Tampa Bay Beautiful is still looking for volunteers for one of Tampa's largest annual volunteer events, the 24th Annual Hillsborough River & Waterway Cleanup.

On Nov. 19, after volunteers are sent out to 40 different cleanup sites throughout Hillsborough County, they will enjoy the Rally on the River with live music by Bobby & The Rockets and a free picnic lunch prepared by the Sickles High School Culinary Program.

Tampa, Florida -- On Saturday, Nov. 19, up to 75 brave participants will have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to rappel 280 ft. "over the edge" of the Franklin Exchange building.

As a fundraiser for Tampa-based global nonprofit Heartbeat International (HBI), participants will each raise a minimum of $1,000 to support the efforts of Heartbeat International's Pacemaker Program, which provides pacemaker devices and surgeries to indigent patients around the world, and for the enhancement of HBI's heart health education, awareness, and training programs.

Glazer Children's Museum holds event to benefit Riverwalk

Tampa, Florida -- CREW Tampa Bay and the City of Tampa are hosting a celebrating of ArtLOUD! sculpture exhibition.

The event will be held from 7 - 10 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 11 at the Glazer Children's Museum and includes a silent auction benefiting Downtown and the Riverwalk.

The event will also feature gourmet tastings and cocktails, Latin Jazz by "Jurika," and an exciting live auction and raffle prizes. Tickets at $65 for the event.

The Glazer Children's Museum is located at 110 W. Gasparilla Plaza in Downtown Tampa.

Forum to address the needs of Women Veterans

The Hillsborough County Commission on the Status of Women (COSW) will host a Women Veterans Forum on Tuesday, Nov. 29, to identify and develop solutions to the unique challenges faced by women returning home from military service.

As the number of women in uniform active in ongoing conflicts continues to grow, so too does the need to address the vital issues of health care, community reintegration, job placement assistance, and education.

Five experts will share their perspectives and participate in a panel discussion.
