10 News MLK Day Blood & Marrow Registry Drive 2012

Hillsborough County, FL -- January is the month of highest blood usage by patients in Tampa Bay. In addition, there is a critical need for more minority donors on the National Marrow Donor Program's 'Be The Match' Registry.

Therefore, 10 News has teamed up with Bealls to sponsor the 10 News Martin Luther King Day Blood & Marrow Donor Registry Drive, on Monday, Jan. 16.

Florida Blood Services bloodmobiles will be located at the following Hillsborough County Bealls store locations from noon to 6 p.m.:

Tampa, FL – The greatest show on earth is coming to Tampa, and no I’m not talking about the circus, I’m talking about Winter Jam 2012! This spectacular talked about worldwide show features the top names in Christian music.

On Saturday, Jan. 14 at 6 p.m. Winter Jam will take over the stage at Tampa Bay Times Forum.

MacDill helps toy give-a-way reach record numbers

Tampa, FL -- Children with a Vision, Inc. (CWAV) is hosting its 10th Annual Christmas Toy Give-A-Way on Friday, Dec. 23 and thanks to the MacDill Air Force Base it will be the biggest one yet.

The non-profit says they received thousands of toys from MacDill at the last minute to help add to the Toys for Tots gifts they already received.

Donation results from Thanksgiving blood drive

Hillsborough County, FL -- The week before Thanksgiving, Florida Blood Services’ (FBS) donors were told they could decline their personal thank you gift and have a $5 donation made to their local food bank instead.

Donors were also told they could drop off non-perishable food items at any of the Donor Center locations to provide additional support to those who are hungry. To help add to the donation, FBS chose not to send out Holiday cards.

Mons Venus owner lends park to Occupy Tampa

TAMPA, Fla. -- Joe Redner's the man behind a lot of Tampa businesses - perhaps none more famous than Mons Venus.

"They undertax the rich and I'm one of them," he says. "I'm one of the one percent and I think I should pay more taxes. They use the excuse that there won't be jobs if we tax the rich. The money that I leave in my business they don't tax."

That's why he's lending a hand, and the park he owns in West Tampa, to the Occupy movement.

Nominations open for 2012 Hillsborough County Women’s Hall Of Fame

Hillsborough County, FL -- Nomination forms are now available online for the 2012 Hillsborough County Women’s Hall of Fame at with submissions due on or before January 15, 2012.

Up to three nominees will be selected, and the winners will be announced at a Hillsborough County Commission meeting in March 2012, followed by an induction at a formal ceremony in May.
