The Cuban Sandwich Show returns August 3 | Arts & Culture
Tampa, Florida -- The Cuban Sandwich Show returns to Hillsborough Community College on Friday August 31. The month-long event highlights various forms of art that focus on Tampa.
The motto for the event is "All Art - All Tampa - No Mayo."
The show is open to the public Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the HCC Ybor City Campus Art Gallery inside the Performing Arts Building located at 2204 N. 15th St.
Below is text about the show posted on the event's website.
The Artists and Writers Group, Inc. is presenting a month-long series of cultural events about Tampa titled THE CUBAN SANDWICH SHOW, at numerous venues in Tampa, Aug. 1 - 31, 2012. The premise is that all the art, in all mediums, has as its subject, "Tampa...and/or Cuban sandwiches." Our motto: All Art-All Tampa-No Mayo.
All the art must be exclusively about TAMPA and/or Cuban sandwiches (our chosen symbol of Tampa-slightly tongue-in-cheek). Thus, whatever the art form - visual arts, photography, video, dance, theater, music, cuisine, poetry, literature - the root subject is Tampa and its past, present and/or future. And for those of you who ask, yes, Ybor City is the heart of Tampa.
While artists will be predominantly from the Tampa Bay area, the event is open to anyone willing to share one's personal vision of Tampa. The work can be traditional, but the Group's tastes lean towards the whimsical, satirical, political, hysterical, silly, fun, surprising, deadly serious, wacky, and especially...new views and fresh perspectives of our fair city.
The Cuban Sandwich Show is an expanded version of a very popular annual arts exhibition conceived by Gordon and Denise Mhyre that originated in Ybor City in 1991 and continued in Seminole Heights for a number.
