Arts Council forced to buy insurance for artists | Arts & Culture

Tampa, Florida --The Hillsborough Arts Council meeting in downtown Tampa informed the council of new, expensive responsibilities.
The council will have to get and spend taxpayer money to gain liability insurance for every artist that goes in the Hillsborough School System.
Initially, the Arts Council was told it would have to pay $4,800 for the policy, but because it came up as the school year was ending, the council was able to cut the rate to $2,200 for this fiscal year.
Although the council had to take out the policy this year, School Board member Candy Olson told the Arts Council she has talked to the district's business manager, who she says may contact them to try to find a way to have the insurance requirement waved.
