Joshua Grosso to perform at Spotlight Awards Thursday

Tampa, Florida Winner of the national 2012National High School Musical Theater Awards, Joshua Grosso, will perform at the Patel Conservatory’s 2013 Spotlight Awards on Thursday!

Joshua represented the Straz Center, and the state of Florida, at the National High School Musical Theater Awards in New York City last year and earned the title of Jimmy Award winner and a $10,000 scholarship. He is now a sophomore studying musical theater at Carnegie Mellon University's School of Drama.

Patel Conservatory Youth Orchestra to perform May 20

Tampa, Florida -- The Patel Conservatory Youth Orchestra will present its spring concert on Monday, May 20, at 7 p.m. in the TECO Theater at the David A. Straz, Jr. Center for the Performing Arts.

Under the batons of Principal Conductor Stephen P. Brown and Associate Conductor Catherine Michelsen, the acclaimed Patel Conservatory Youth Orchestra will present great music from the classics to modern.

The concert will begin with a performance by Suzuki violin students, followed by the Intermezzo Orchestra performing several selections, including “Contredanse” by Larry Clark.

Patel Conservatory presents "Evening of Shorts"

Patel Conservatory presents "Evening of Shorts"

Tampa, Florida -- Patel Conservatory students from high school, college and adult theater classes taught by Kerry Glamsch and Jack Holloway will perform a collection of short plays and excerpts in Evening of Shorts on Friday, May 17, at 7 p.m. at the TECO Theater at the Straz Center for the Performing Arts.
 
Students will perform excerpts from plays such as "Raisin in the Sun," "Blood Diamond," "Favors," "Don Quixote," "Boeing, Boeing" and "The Underpants." Overall, 15 pieces will be performed.

Museum of Photographic Arts hires new director

Tampa, Florida --The Florida Museum of Photographic Arts in the Cube building on Ashley Drive in Downtown Tampa has hired Jane Simon as its new director.

Simon who will see daily operations comes to the Museum, has a background including working as a curator of the USF Contemporary Art Museum as well as for the Exhibitions for the Madison Museum of Contemporary Arts in Madison Wisconsin.

The Museum houses historic and contemporary photographs by national and internationally known photographers.
