Consumer Protection Agency warns of timeshare scams

Hillsborough County, Florida-- The Hillsborough County Consumer Protection Agency is warning residents of a recent rise in timeshare telemarketing scams. 

According to their latest Consumer Sense report, the rise comes as a result of the current economically challenging conditions- which have left many timeshare owners unable to afford their units. 

Group talks of Channelside takeover plans

Suspects wanted for stealing SUV, selling for $400

Tampa, Florida-- Two suspects are wanted for dealing in stolen property after stealing and selling an SUV in Tampa late last month. 

According to a Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office report, 22-year-old Angel Hinson and 20-year-old Bennacio Ortiz stole a 1997 Mercury Mountaineer from the Thompson Auto Parts parking lot on Friday, April 26, and then sold it to a secondary recycling dealer that same day.

Humana hoping to hire over 150 in Tampa Bay

Tampa, Florida-- Humana Inc. has announced plans to add more than 170 jobs to its full-time telesales workforce in Tampa Bay, the company announced Wednesday.

The 170 new jobs will support Humana's Direct Marketing Services (DMS) call center at NetPark, located at 5701 E Hillsborough Ave., in East Tampa. 

Group planning Channelside takeover meets with public today

Tampa, Florida -- In just two weeks, the big Channelside development could be on the path to a new owner. And Wednesday, we will hear from the people planning to take it over.

The twelve-year old complex is officially called Channelside Bay Plaza. An Irish bank took charge of it after its owners couldn't pay the mortgage. But that Irish bank failed, so essentially the government of Ireland owns it.

County director sentenced in fraudulent mortgage scheme

Tampa, Florida-- The Department of Justice has announced the sentence for former Hillsborough County's Real Estate Director, Anthony Haynes, after he pleaded guilty to mail and wire fraud back in January. 

According to a release sent Tuesday, 54-year-old Haynes will serve one year and one day on two counts of wire fraud in connection to the mortgage scheme involving Sun Trust Bank back in 2006.

The release says Haynes made material misrepresentations on loan applications and closing documents for two personal mortgages.
