City of Tampa accepting proposals to turn historic building into hotel

Tampa, FL -- The City of Tampa is looking to re-energize one of its downtown historic buildings by turning it into a luxury hotel and has released a Request for Proposals (RFP) for all interested parties.

The RFP is for the acquisition (long-term lease) and redevelopment of the Classic Federal Courthouse, located on North Florida Avenue in the heart of the Central Business District. The RFP specifically targets a hotel development.

New Information: Tampa club shooting injures 5 people

Tampa, Florida -- Tampa Police are investigating an early morning shooting at Club Manilla in the area of East 7th Avenue and 27th Street, several blocks east of Ybor City.

Officers on scene tell 10 News five people were shot in the east parking lot just after the club's closing hour at 2:30am. There were as many as 1,000 people attending the Monday Ladies Night event.

Meetings to revise school boundaries

Citrus Park, Florida - Hillsborough County Public Schools will hold community meetings to present plans for revising the former attendance boundaries for three converted schools Nov. 8, 9, and 10.

The attendance boundaries are being changed for students who live within the former boundaries of each school that were eliminated when they were reorganized this year.

Franklin Middle School was converted from a school with attendance boundaries to a district-wide magnet school this school year.

Tampa gas prices weekly update

Tampa, FL -- Average retail gasoline prices in Tampa fell 4.3 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $3.29/g yesterday. This compares with the national average that fell 2.9 cents per gallon in the last week to $3.43/g, according to gasoline price website TampaGasPrices.com.

Forum to address the needs of Women Veterans

The Hillsborough County Commission on the Status of Women (COSW) will host a Women Veterans Forum on Tuesday, Nov. 29, to identify and develop solutions to the unique challenges faced by women returning home from military service.

As the number of women in uniform active in ongoing conflicts continues to grow, so too does the need to address the vital issues of health care, community reintegration, job placement assistance, and education.

Five experts will share their perspectives and participate in a panel discussion.
