Patel Conservatory Youth Orchestra to perform May 20

Tampa, Florida -- The Patel Conservatory Youth Orchestra will present its spring concert on Monday, May 20, at 7 p.m. in the TECO Theater at the David A. Straz, Jr. Center for the Performing Arts.

Under the batons of Principal Conductor Stephen P. Brown and Associate Conductor Catherine Michelsen, the acclaimed Patel Conservatory Youth Orchestra will present great music from the classics to modern.

The concert will begin with a performance by Suzuki violin students, followed by the Intermezzo Orchestra performing several selections, including “Contredanse” by Larry Clark.

Commissioners seek applications for citizen boards and councils

Hillsborough County, Florida -- Hillsborough County Commissioners are seeking residents to serve on several County citizen advisory boards and councils. Residents interested in seeking appointment must be registered voters in Hillsborough County. These are voluntary positions, and members serve without compensation. Applicants may apply to more than one board, but may only serve on one board at a time. All applicants must submit the Standards of Conduct form along with their application.

Police investigating homicide of foreign citizen

Tampa, Florida -- Police are investigating a homicide in the 4800 Block of North 30th Street in Tampa. 

According to reports the victim appears to be a foreign citizen although it is unclear what his country of origin is.

Foul languarge and threats part of Channelside negotiations

Tampa, Florida -- More problems are arising between the Tampa Port Authority and the  Liberty Group that wants to develop Channelside  in downtown Tampa. The  Port owns the land Channelside is on.

Wednesday news leaked that the Port was asking the group to put up $10 million dollars for renovations to Channelside in order to consider forgiving the million dollars in debts by the former developer.

The Liberty Group offered to put up $2 million and the port said that was unacceptable.

Assistant principal denied service dog at school

Tampa, Florida -- The Americans with Disabilities Act says service dogs are working dogs and are free to go anywhere. But when an assistant principal in Hillsborough County asked the district if she could bring her service dog to school their answer was, "No."

Agnes Tanon-Rodenbach, 47, says she spent five months going through the proper channels to get permission to bring her dog to work with her, but the district's answer is still no. 

Rodenbach is on medical leave for a disability she describes as invisible but says is very real.
